What these are.

This describes the original training materials during the trial, it’s provided here for reference.

For a clinical trial, we adapted materials developed by Ariadne Labs for the Serious Illness Care Program for primary care practices. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, advance care planning is even more important for patients with serious illnesses. Clinicians and health care workers are facing challenging times. We want to make our resources widely available.

We developed training that required minimal time and that focused on using the Serious Illness Care Guide as a structured approach to increase clinician confidence when talking with patients and families about what really matters to them. This was prior to COVID-19. We believe these skills are even more important now.

Our training consisted of:

Online module: 1 to 1.5 hours to complete
Roleplay and discussion: 1 to 1.5 hours. These were done in-person and then adapted to online formats during the pandemic.
