The Requirement

Our partner and funder, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) required that we develop an Engagement Plan. This document described our plans to foster meaningful engagement with a range of stakeholders. Engagement is both a challenging and necessary endeavor. We first focused on engaging patient and family advisors (PFAs) when planning and conducting our trial. Then we worked to assure clinicians and other stakeholders were engaged throughout the process. Our Engagement Plan was revisited as we gained experience and discovered new opportunities to collaborate and assure the success of the trial.

The recognition

After its completion, PCORI identified our Engagement Plan to be an example for other PCORI engagement projects. They invited us to speak at a webinar about the plan and mentioned it on their blog. If you are planning to include engagement in your project, PCORI has created various resources to support engagement in research.
